Our Region and Vision
The Regional Training Institute of the Atlantic States serves the states of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. The training institute is a system of distance education that aims to develop capacity in growing numbers of people to contribute to the construction of a better world. Its central organizing principle is the development of capabilities needed for service to the community and society at large through the acquisition of spiritual insights and practical skills.
Education stands at the center of this work. We believe true education is the refinement of character and the soul. The promotion of education in all its forms is a most urgent requirement, without which it is inconceivable that any nation should achieve prosperity and success.
This short film captures the efforts of individuals, communities, and institutions in North Carolina as they strive together to build a more united and just society, through education that draws on shared spiritual and ethical teachings.
Programs for Children
Children are the future of our communities. Our children's class curriculum helps children ages 5–10 develop moral and spiritual qualities — love, truthfulness, honesty — through prayers, stories, games, and art. Children take part through weekly classes, camps, and a free homeschool curriculum.
Programs for Middle Schoolers
The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program engages middle schoolers (grades 6–8) in a year-round, service-learning framework that builds intellectual growth, character, and social-emotional wellbeing. Groups meet weekly with trained volunteer mentors — adults, college students, and high schoolers — through after-school clubs, neighborhood groups, and camps throughout the year.
Programs for Youth
The training institute and its programs help young people bring coherence to their growing responsibilities — academic studies, career development, and family commitments — by viewing them through the lens of a twofold moral purpose: personal spiritual growth and societal transformation. Rather than treating service as a separate activity, they find that walking a path of service clarifies their thoughts about the future and provides a disciplined framework for making sound decisions in every sphere of life.
Programs for Adults
The main sequence of courses for adults serves as an expanding system for human resource development, empowering individuals to contribute to both the material and spiritual progress of their community. Organized around the idea of "walking a path of service," the sequence is guided by a twofold moral purpose — taking charge of one's own intellectual and spiritual growth while working toward the transformation of society.
